The UHS Trojans kicked off their 2022 fall season with a 21-7 win in a home scrimmage over Santa Ana Valley, Thu afternoon, August 11.
Uni had their passing game clicking with 225 yards in the air. Junior Koa Saito was 9 for 13 for 104 yards and added 39 more on the ground including a 12 yard TD scamper around right end. Sophomore Zach Malek hit on 6 of 8 passes for 121 yards and 2 TDs. Junior Asgher Ross was the recipient of a 59 yard scoring pass courtesy of him breaking a tackle and outrunning the last defender. Ross caught two passes for 76 yards. Sophomore Damari Carter hauled in a 23 yard TD pass. Junior Blaine Anderson caught 6 passes from Saito for 84 yards (four of which were for first downs).
Junior newcomer Richard Bines was a stalwart on the defensive line notching 5 tackles including 3 for loss. The Trojans had 8 tackles for loss.
Uni had 279 yards in total offense and limited Valley to 187 (130 passing and 57 rushing). Uni had 12 first downs (9 passing) while Valley had 9 (5 ground, 3 air and 1 via penalty). UHS was flagged for 5 penalties and 25 yards while Valley had 2 for 10.
Uni opens their regular season at Dana Hills Fri night, August 19.
